Mike Higgins
Born in Dundee, Scotland, Mike really started to play bass seriously at age 16. His older brother was already a working bass player supporting bands like Wishbone Ash and UFO.
Mike landed his first professional gigs at age 17 playing around Scotland and the Scottish Isles.
At age 24, Mike moved to London. The first gig Mike landed was with ’70s pop band, Racey! This meant gigs on the huge European festival circuit where the band would often play to crowds of 20,000 as part of a “Best of the 70s Tour” as well as numerous appearances on TV across the continent.
This was a great education for Mike in terms of big stages, big crowds and general performance.
Once settled in London, Mike began to get calls for session recordings as well as other live shows.
Through the years Mike has worked with a huge range of artists such as Katie Melua, Clem Burke of Blondie, British funk/soul legend, Omar, Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet, Chesney Hawkes, Michael Ball, Belinda Carlisle, Simon Tong of the Verve, the legendary musician and producer Kid Harpoon who has just received a Grammy for Harry Styles’s latest album, Billy Mackenzie of the Associates, Gary Clarke of Danny Wilson fame and many more.
The Uptown Girl – Billy Joel Collection show gives Mike a great opportunity to perform the iconic songs of Billy Joel with a great singer and band – hopefully reproducing the basslines and capturing the energy of the fantastic Doug Stegmeyer and the more recent, Andy Cichon.
The upcoming tour takes in many cities in the UK and Mike is very much looking forward to seeing the same great audience reaction the band have already had this year.
“It’s always a pleasure to play these songs and work with this band. Seeing the audience singing along to these great songs is a real treat! See you at a theatre near you! All the best, Mike x”
